Welcome to the first day of February! This month honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who helped to shape the United States. Every February, Black History Month serves as a time to remember and celebrate the rich cultural impact of black people in America. In a time where our news feeds may be filled with traumatic images and difficult text about the treatment of black people in today’s society, may there also be room for joy and healing. Your well being matters.
Before I reach for my phone or check my planner, I take a few minutes to affirm the thoughts I want to guide me through my day. I believe that in order to take on whatever the day may bring, I must speak good over myself. Affirmations are one way of speaking positivity and wellness into my day each morning. Even on the days that I struggle with challenging feelings, these words often serve as a reminder that I am in control and that I can make it.
The best part about adding affirmations to your day is that they are flexible and can be used in many parts of your daily routine. You can write them on a sticky note on your bathroom mirror, or keep a list in the notes app on your cell phone. Or you can do what I like to do most, memorize a few so that they are always accessible when you need them.
So here’s a list of affirmations that I hope you keep close this February. For more morning affirmations, follow me on instagram – where I post daily affirmations in my stories with prompts to elevate your day.
