Visit Barbados: My First Rum Tasting at Mount Gay Rum

You haven’t truly experienced Barbados without having one of the island’s infamous rum punches. For as many times as I’ve visited the island, my most recent visit to Barbados would be the first time I experienced a Mount Gay rum tasting. The Mount Gay Signature Rum Tasting is the perfect midday adventure for anyone interested in learning the history of rum in Barbados.

The sunshine coupled with the breeze from the beach along Spring Garden made it a perfect day for the outing. Staff were welcoming and managed the activeness of multiple tour groups efficently. While I did not attend this event alone, I think it can also fitting as a solo experience.

Using only a few minutes of planning, I purchased two tickets for $50 USD the morning of my visit. The tour started on time so you will want to arrive at least 15 minutes early. The check in process was seamless. My tour guide was informative, pleasant and witty. In effect, I learned so much about the process that turns this 3 ingredient rum into a symphony of tastes reminiscent of various spices and flavors.

Barbados is home to the world oldest running rum distillery.

The tour was a truly educational experience. Here I learned the relationship between legs and the age of the rum.

You would be surprised what tasting 4 rums can do in such a small span of time! After the tour, I reached for my shades and soaked up some sun. My ticket did not include lunch, but other ticket holders in my group had lunch included. In hindsight, staying for lunch would be ideal after all those taste tests.

For any rum enthusiasts or anyone looking for something fun to do, make sure you visit Mount Gay Rum! They have a wide selection of activities featuring their signature rums. As always – drink responsibly!

Live abundantly,

Bethany
