Essence Fest in New Orleans was the place to be July 4th weekend. New Orleans needs no introduction and it is definitely a place I want to revisit. But as a first time attendee of the Essence Festival I see why it attracts large crowds year after year. My loose itinerary and palpable excitement was all I needed for a few days in the vibrant city.
Lately I’ve been leaning more into my intuition and less into planning when it comes to travel. I don’t know if it is a side effect of the pandemic (re: the constant fear of plans being canceled at a moment’s notice) or a desire to live in the moment but I am enjoying this version of travel. The great thing about traveling to NOLA during Essence Fest is all events you have access to. You can choose to spend your days at the convention center visiting your favorite brands, watching performances or listening to entertainers. Another option is to enjoy the events going on street side occurring in the areas surrounding the convention center. A bonus option is to go off the grid and take advantage of the cool attractions NOLA has to offer. During this Essence Fest I did a combination of all three.
If you want a peak at how I spent each of my days check out these videos I posted on Instagram:
