Having a clean and organized workspace is important for being successful when working from home. Since the shutdown of March 2020, the remote work experience has changed how we work as a society. I’ve learned a lot about my work style and how I work best. In this post I will discuss a few items I continue to use to stay organized and productive.
As timing would have it, a few weeks before the shutdown in March 2020 I was preparing to do a major redesign in my bedroom. I knew I wanted to have a desk area that could double as a workspace and a beauty space. I also wanted a desk with built in drawers for paper files, tech equipment, and other office supplies. The initial switch to full time remote work provided an opportune time for me to design my room, more specifically – a corner office, with functionality and appeal in mind. The shutdown gave me a realistic set of conditions that directly impacted how I was shopped for my bedroom redesign.
Since my office is located in my bedroom this post will provide the best items for small spaces.
Desk organization ideas
Desk
Monarch Specialties Hollow-Core Left or Right Facing Desk – I love this desk! It has two of my major wants: storage and wide width. It is important that I have a desk that can support a dual screen setup.
Laptop Stand
Loryergo Dual Monitor Stand – Adjustable, ergonomic and spacious is how I like to describe this stand. I can easily move one or both of the shelves when I need more desk space for other tasks. There is enough space on the shelves for: two MacBooks, iPads, cellphones or underneath: for notebooks or journals.
Laptop Sleeve
Mosiso Laptop Sleeve Bag – Great for laptop storage with enough space for a small notebook, pens or a few documents. Check the dimensions of your laptop before purchasing to ensure that your laptop will fit comfortably in the sleeve!
Phone Stand
Bright Stone Adjustable Tablet Stand Phone Holder – This phone stand serves a few purposes on my desk. It can be used for hands free FaceTime or other video conferencing calls. Additionally, this stand is super helpful when I need to record content for social media.
Pen Storage
Umbra Trigg Desktop Planter Vase & Geometric Ceramic Container – These were too cute to pass up – even though I am not using them in the way that the name suggests. I use these desktop planter containers for my pens, pencils and highlighters. It is one of my favorite items on my desk because of their functionality and appeal.
Folders
Smead File Folder – If you are into paper files like me you will need a way to keep them organized. These are great for drawer filing or keeping loose papers on the desk organized.
Vanity Mirror
Weily Hollywood Makeup Mirror with Lights – Great for skincare or makeup application. I appreciate the different light settings. I received mine as a birthday gift so I am linking a similar one. This mirror may one day move to another part of my room as future redesigns occur. For now it is kept on my desk for easy access when recording video content. It also comes in handy when I am checking I don’t have food stuck in my teeth before hopping on a work call!
